I have also struggled, because I do not agree with most of the Republican platform and as such do not lay claim to the Republican party (I don't consider myself a Democrat either, I try to vote my conscious) anyway the one issue that always comes up is "how can you vote for someone who is pro-choice?" my response is simply that no one from either party has been able to significantly affect the issue one way or the other that I've seen in the past 10 years. So why would I vote for someone who has an opinion on something and can't/won't do anything about it? I agree with you, something isn't working... and there should be other options for moms who feel they have no way out, mom shouldn't feel aborton is an option... but the truth is that Abortion shouldn't be a political issue and we as the church should be doing more about it than politicians anyway....
Just my two cents worth on the subject, look forward to hearing more thoughts from you on this in the future ;)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-225985079020466901.post-27447356551363941542008-08-31T19:30:00.000-07:002008-08-31T19:30:00.000-07:00Great post, Marisa. He shares a little on his thoughts about abortion in the video at the bottom of the home page. No, I don't think that you were a meany :) I agree that adoption could be a great way to go and know that there are many families out there that are waiting to bring a baby home... BUT, we need to work on our government to make adopting more of an option for people. It takes forever and costs a fortune and therefore isn't an option for many people that might be willing... My main thing is that we have to take a more holistic approach to abortion.

I also think that it is important to note that the rate of abortions has not gone down much. So, something isn't working somewhere. I think that it is time for all of us to recognize this and figure out what the problem is - both parties. I don't know many Pro-Choicers that think that abortion is the best way. They just don't think that making it illegal will be effective in slowing it down.

Just my thoughts...marisabutterworthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15562566315977278499noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-225985079020466901.post-87457491448665981962008-08-31T13:40:00.000-07:002008-08-31T13:40:00.000-07:00Marisa...I agree with you a lot. And I agree that it is a difficult thing to say that we expect everyone to have children when they can't provide for them. However, I think we need to say that. Murdering a child is less heinous than struggling to provide for them, and adoption is an option many overlook. There are at least as many people willing to adopt as there are abortions in the United States, and if someone is unable to give their child the sort of life they would like to, I would argue that giving the child any life at all is HIGHLY preferable to ending their life when it has barely begun. And if provision is really their concern, there are millions of families in the United States that are unable to have children of their own or are called to adopt, and would love to provide for the child.

Just my thoughts. Hopefully I don't come across as a meanie :)

Katie AconeAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-225985079020466901.post-82225650390586799962008-08-29T03:14:00.000-07:002008-08-29T03:14:00.000-07:00It was great to read this post and for so many rea...It was great to read this post and for so many reasons.
